High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)
At our school, every learner’s potential is our priority. We believe all students can thrive when their strengths and interests are recognised and nurtured.
We provide a range of differentiated learning opportunities that allow students to think, create, lead and grow every day. Our teachers identify and support high potential in all learners, helping them develop their talents across four key areas —
- Creative Domain: Students explore ideas and express themselves through creative activities that encourage originality and problem-solving.
- Intellectual Domain: Students are challenged with rich learning experiences that build deep thinking and advanced understanding.
- Physical Domain: Students develop coordination, fitness, and physical skills through active and engaging programs.
- Social-Emotional Domain: Students build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships to support their wellbeing and personal growth.
High potential and gifted education is delivered through classroom programs, whole-school initiatives and Department of Education supports.
What is High Potential and Gifted Education?
At our school, evidence-informed teaching helps every student achieve personal excellence. We recognise that potential exists along a continuum — some students may need different levels of challenge and support to reach their best.
- High potential students are those whose abilities exceed those of their peers in one or more areas.
- Gifted students have potential that significantly exceeds that of students their age in specific subjects or areas.
To understand each student’s learning needs, we use a range of assessments, including ability and achievement tests, adaptive testing, rating scales, performance tasks, student self-nominations, pre-testing, and teacher observations.
We use this information to plan effective, evidence-based strategies that support talent development and extend high potential and gifted learners.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
