MiniLit Sage and MacqLit

Our school implements MiniLit and MacqLit as part of our commitment to providing effective, research-based literacy support. These targeted intervention programs deliver explicit instruction in phonics, fluency and comprehension, ensuring students receive the specialised teaching they need to develop strong reading foundations and achieve their full potential.

MiniLit

MiniLit Sage is an updated early reading intervention program designed for Year 1 and 2 students who need extra support developing foundational reading skills. It provides explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, letter formation, and reading connected text. The program reflects the latest reading research and aligns closely with InitiaLit, ensuring strong links between classroom teaching and targeted support.

MiniLit Sage includes 100 structured lessons that build decoding, spelling, accuracy, and fluency. Students begin with a placement test to find the right starting point, and progress is monitored throughout the program. Lessons run for 45 minutes, 4–5 times per week, in small groups or one-on-one, and include phonics-focused activities followed by reading practice.

This evidence-based program is practical, cost-effective, and supported by clear lesson plans, allowing teachers and support staff to deliver it confidently and consistently. For more information about MiniLit Sage at our school, please contact our Learning Support Team.

MacqLit

MacqLit is a structured reading intervention program for students in Year 3 to high school who need extra support with reading, especially with recognising and decoding words. It provides explicit teaching in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and phonemic awareness, following a clear sequence that helps students build confidence and success.

The program is delivered in small groups, with hour-long lessons taught at least four times a week, supported by daily one-on-one reading practice. Across 122 lessons, students learn essential skills such as decoding multi-syllable words, understanding prefixes and suffixes, and applying their skills through connected text reading.

MacqLit is ideal for students who score in the bottom 25% on reading assessments and need targeted, evidence-based support. Regular progress checks ensure each student receives the right help. For more information about MacqLit at our school, please contact our Learning Support Team.
