Assisted School Travel Program
The Department of Education provides the Assisted School Travel Program (ASTP) to help eligible students travel safely between home and school. At Milperra Public School, we have a large number of students access this service. The ASTP supports students who are enrolled in a support class or school for specific purposes and who, because of their disability, require assistance with transport.
Students may be eligible if:
- They have significant disability or support needs,
- Their school placement is determined through the Access Request process, and
- They cannot reasonably travel to and from school by public transport or with family support.
The ASTP is coordinated by the Department and delivered through contracted transport providers. It is designed to ensure students arrive at school safely and ready to learn each day.
Families need to apply for the program through their child’s school. The school will guide you through the application process and submit the necessary documentation to the Department. Eligibility is assessed individually, and placements are reviewed regularly to ensure the support provided continues to meet the student’s needs.
For more detailed information, you can visit the Department of Education’s Assisted School Travel Program website or contact the school office for advice.
