Events
MPS Swimming Carnival
Our annual Swimming Carnival was a splashing success! Students from all year levels showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship as they competed in a variety of races and fun water activities. It was wonderful to see everyone cheering each other on and enjoying a day full of friendly competition and team spirit. Congratulations to all participants and a big thank you to our teachers and volunteers for making the day so memorable!
World Down Syndrome Day
The date for World Down Syndrome Day is the 21st day of the 3rd month. This date signifies the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.
Each year people like to celebrate and recognise World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly coloured or odd socks. This is because chromosomes can look like pairs of socks!
The idea behind the ‘Lots of Socks’ initiative is acceptance of all our differences, and what makes us unique as an individual. Socks come in all shapes, sizes, and designs, just like each of us.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is celebrated in Australia on March 21st to recognize the country's diverse cultures and Indigenous Australians. It's a day to promote respect, inclusion, and social cohesion.
This year Milperra Public School celebrated Harmony day on Wednesday 19th March. Students wore orange to symbolize unity and respect, and participated in classroom activities to learn, understand and celebrate Harmony Day.
Swim Scheme
During week 9, from the 24th March to the 28th March,
Year 2 students, some Year 3 students and students from the Support Unit participated in Swim Scheme.
This was an intensive water safety program that aimed to develop the practical skills and knowledge to teach students how to keep safe in the water and how to help others in an emergency situation.
The students all had a fantastic time and learned a lot from the incredible instructors.
World Autism Awareness Day
On Wednesday 2nd April, Milperra Public School celebrated World Autism Awareness Day by dressing in their most colourful clothes to paint our school in a beautiful rainbow! Students participated in various activities throughout the day to help create an understanding and acceptance of people living with Autism. It is also a time to celebrate the fact that we are all different, unique and to spread kindness, learning, and awareness to create a more accepting and inclusive school community for everyone!
Anzac Day Service
This week, our school community came together for our ANZAC Day service led by our outstanding student leaders. From beginning to end they carried out their roles with respect and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Morrison for coordinating such a thoughtful event. We are also grateful to the families and community members who were in attendance.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Tegan Turner for her generous donation of the beautiful wreath that was laid during the service. We would also like to recognise Dylan Harris for his powerful rendition of The Last Post on the violin.

Easter Hat Parade
Hip-hip-hooray the Easter Bunny is on his way!
On Wednesday 9th April, Milperra Public School held their annual Easter Hat Parade. With a hop in our step, students were all ears at our Easter Hat Parade, showing off their egg-cellent creativity and hare-raising designs!
It was an egg-stravaganza of colours, crafts, and cheerful charm. Thank you to all the students, families, and teachers who helped make this event egg-straordinary!
3-6 Cross Country
On Wednesday 7th May, students from Years 3 to 6, along with Year 2 students turning 8 this year, took part in the 3–6 Cross Country Carnival. Held at Gordon Parker Oval for the first time, students adapted well to the new course and showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day. Everyone should be proud of their fantastic efforts! Congratulations to the following students for proceeding through to the District Carnival held on the 20th May.
Reconciliation Week
This week, our school proudly acknowledged Reconciliation Week! Each student contributed by decorating a personal leaf that will be part of a whole school art collaboration. Our First Nations students will assemble all the leaves to create a stunning artwork that reflects this year's theme, "Bridging Now to Next." This theme reminds us of the importance of building connections and fostering understanding. Stay tuned to see the end result to celebrate reconciliation and create a vibrant display of unity.
Sorry Day
On Monday, 26th May, MPS commemorated National Sorry Day—a significant occasion to acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Stolen Generations.
As part of our commemoration, students studied a variety of resources such as podcasts, poems and historical recounts, and engaged in meaningful discussions regarding the importance of National Sorry Day, significant events of the past and the experience of the Stolen Generation. Students also created a variety of artworks or craft activities to develop a deeper understanding of the past and foster a sense of empathy, respect and reconciliation.
We are proud of our students for their respectful participation and for embracing the values that National Sorry Day embodies.
100 Days of Kindergarten!!!
This week, we proudly celebrated 100 days of Kindergarten!
It’s been an incredible journey watching our young learners grow, explore, and discover so much in just 100 days. From learning letters and numbers to building friendships and confidence, we couldn’t be prouder of all they’ve achieved so far this year! Congratulations Kindergarten!
Book Parade
On Tuesday 5th August, MPS came alive with adventurous stories for the annual Book Week Parade as part of our Education Week celebrations! We celebrated the magic of reading with this year's theme: "Book an Adventure!". Students and staff sailed the high seas with pirates, took off in a big jet plane with our very own flight crew, looked over the world with the Care Bears and even found the infamous Where’s Wally!
Today was all about celebrating the incredible adventures we take through books and reading. A big thank you to our wonderful students, families, and staff for bringing the spirit of storytelling to life with your amazing costumes and creativity!
Anti-Bullying Week
This week at MPS we took part in Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, held from 11–15 August. This nationwide initiative connects schools and communities to work together to prevent bullying and violence. The 2025 theme, “Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.”, reminds us all of the important role we play in creating safe, respectful environments by standing up against bullying and supporting one another.
Our students engaged in lessons and activities designed to strengthen their understanding of respect, empathy, and inclusion which are all key aspects of our AIM HIGH values. They learned practical strategies to recognise, prevent, and respond to bullying, both in the classroom and in the playground. Through discussions, role-plays, and reflection, students were encouraged to consider how their words and actions impact others, and to take positive steps to ensure everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
By being bold, showing kindness, and speaking up, we can all contribute to a school culture where everyone can AIM HIGH.
3-6 Athletics Carnival
Our 3–6 Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day filled with energy, sportsmanship and plenty of smiles. Students gave their all across a variety of track and field events, cheering each other on and celebrating every effort. It was wonderful to see everyone having a go, supporting their friends and enjoying the spirit of the day.
We’re excited to share the results from the events. A big congratulations to all our placegetters and participants for their hard work and determination. The highlight for many, however, was the hilarious teachers’ race, which had everyone in fits of laughter.
A huge thank you to all the staff, parent helpers, and spectators for making the day run so smoothly. Well done to everyone who took part, you’ve made our school proud!
DECODING THE UNIVERSE! MPS Production
We are absolutely delighted to share how immensely proud we are of all our MPS students for their extraordinary performances in the Production 2025 showcase.
The students lit up the stage, leaving the entire audience spellbound. Every student gave their very best, demonstrating remarkable teamwork, creativity, and passion throughout rehearsals and during both performances.
It was inspiring to watch them bring our space-themed production “Decoding the Universe”, to life with such enthusiasm and imagination. The way they embraced their roles, supported one another and transformed the stage into a vibrant cosmic adventure was nothing short of spectacular!
Thank you to all the families who have supported their children every step of the way, your encouragement and involvement have been invaluable in making this production a huge success. We are truly grateful to be part of such a vibrant, talented, and supportive community.
Stage 3 - The Great Aussie Bush Camp
Stage 3 students had an amazing time at the Great Aussie Bush Camp, enjoying fun, adventure, and new challenges! They learned bush craft and damper making, faced fears on the power fan, and tested teamwork canoeing on the lake. Thrilling activities like the giant swing, Flying Fox, high ropes, agility course, and archery kept everyone engaged. Beyond the fun, the camp helped build confidence, teamwork, and lasting memories. The Great Aussie Bush Camp staff praised our students for their great behaviour and enthusiasm. A big thank you to the camp team for an unforgettable experience!
Year 4 STEM Excursion
Year 4 students got to attend Picnic Point High School’s STEM Day. Students were emersed into the world of construction, engineering, maths and a whole heap of fun! We built rollercoasters, bridges and garbage bin holders.
We are not sure who had the most fun - the students or the teachers!
Literacy and Numeracy Week
This week, Milperra Public School celebrated Literacy and Numeracy Week, an annual event that highlights the importance of these foundational skills in every child’s learning journey.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students embraced every activity and we thank our teachers for providing rich and meaningful experiences that strengthened literacy and numeracy across all stages of learning.
Together, we are building the skills that help every child thrive!
The students of MPS had an absolute blast at the Monty’s Colour Fun Run on September 18th! With every step came a splash of colour, laughter and plenty of smiles. By the end, everyone looked like walking rainbows - and the fun was just as bright as the mess!
The team from the Support Unit would like to thank all of our staff, students, parents and community members who came along to celebrate our school Colour Fun Run. We appreciate the hard work and efforts of everyone involved to raise funds to purchase resources for our school – we couldn’t have had such a successful day without everyone’s help!
On Thursday Week 10, Milperra PS held an SRC Pyjama Day. Students came to school in their favourite PJs with donations going towards new play equipment around the school.
It’s a fun way to finish the week and show our school spirit!

Student Spotlight
GARDEN CLUB
Students from 1H and 3/4H who signed up for Garden Club this term, enjoyed spending time participating in Garden Club activities at lunchtime this week.
We had a busy time planting brown onions seedlings, dwarf bean and broccoli seeds to kick off our 2025 veggie beds in the Centenary Garden.
Learning basic skills of how to use a hose, hand shovels, and spacing out seeds and seedlings when planting allows hands on experiences and ignites curious minds in the garden.

We are so fortunate to have had these traditional recipes shared with us.
Special thanks to both Hella and Christina for their invaluable contributions and efforts with this weeks lesson.

Williams Syndrome Awareness Day
Williams syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects about 1 in 10,000 people. It is caused by a deletion of genes on chromosome 7 and is often associated with unique facial features, cardiovascular challenges, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and a highly social and friendly personality. People with Williams syndrome are often described as having a deep love of music, strong verbal abilities, and a remarkable ability to connect with others.
To show our support, students and staff came dressed in red, blue, or green — the colours of Williams Syndrome Awareness. Across classrooms, teachers used specially prepared resources to help students learn more about the condition, promote inclusion, and celebrate the strengths and unique qualities of people living with Williams syndrome.

Earlier this year, Alexander was also offered a place at Endeavour Sports High School for his talent in baseball — an exceptional accomplishment. To earn offers from both a selective academic school and a specialist sporting school is truly rare, and Alexander is the first student we’ve known to achieve this impressive dual success.
