Road safety

Milperra Public School is located on Pozieres Avenue Milperra, in a low to medium traffic zone. The times just before and after school can make the roadways potentially dangerous due to the increased flow of traffic around the school.

Please be very careful when driving near the school at these times. Children can be easily distracted and can often act unpredictably.

When setting down or collecting children, please ensure that;

  • all car occupants are safely buckled up when the vehicle is moving
  • children enter and exit the car on the passenger side. This prevents a child from stepping out of the vehicle into the traffic flow
  • your vehicle is parked in accordance with the signage outside the school.

Between the hours of 8:00 AM-9:30AM and 2:30PM-4:00PM, the speed limit in the school zone is 40km/hr.

crossingcarpark

There is a school crossing that is attended by a council road safety officer in the mornings and afternoons. The crossing is slightly elevated from the road surface and has a recommended vehicle speed of 25km/hr.

Please support the school by promoting a smooth and safe flow of traffic during the busy times before and after school. Of special importance is the need to avoid using the staff carpark as a pick-up and drop-off area for children as this causes congestion and safety issues. The staff carpark is fully reserved for use by school teaching and administrative staff.

Please be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists. Adults accompanying small children to and from school are required to hold the child's hand when walking near or on roads. These is also a marked cycleway outside the school which is reserved for use by cyclists.

cyclewaybuszone

A school bus zone and a No Stopping zone exist at the eastern side of the pedestrian crossing. Please do not stop your vehicle in either of these areas. A 10 minute parking zone is signposted on the western side of the pedestrian crosing and this area can be used to set down and collect passengers.

Regrettably, many accidents and inuries to children occur on and around driveways. The school has a number of driveways which are reserved for special purposes only. These are clearly signposted
